Arise, Solo Leveling fans, the anime is getting ready to level up in three days.

As teased by the official English Twitter account for the anime, Solo Leveling hints that “A New Level Begins” on March 21 at 7 AM PDT. The tweet did not divulge much except that the reveal involved the animation project. At seeing the announcement, fans flooded the comments, with many hoping this meant a new trailer will get released as the only material fans have seen so far was a 2022 teaser trailer and character art designs for Sung Jinwoo and Cha Hae-in.

What’s Known About Solo Leveling’s Anime Adaptation

Since the anime’s announcement, little information has been disclosed other than production details, despite it being one of the most highly anticipated series to air in 2023. A-1 Pictures (Nier: Automata Ver1.1a and Kaguya-sama: Love Is War) will produce the adaptation with Shunsuke Nakashige directing. Nakashige worked as the animation director for Restaurant to Another World and episode director for Sword Art Online: Alicization. Noboru Kimura (Mobile Suit Gundam Age, Persona 5 the Animation and Skate-Leading Stars) will write the script and Tomoko Sudo (Alice in Borderland, Blue Exorcist and Spy x Family) will design the characters. Attack on Titan and Blue Exorcist composer Hiroyuki Sawano will compose for the anime.

Originally a web novel written by Chugong, Solo Leveling received a webcomic adaptation in 2018 with Jang Sung-Rak, known more popularly as Dubu, penning the art. Set in a world where the powerful human beings known as Hunters protect humankind from monsters, Sung Jinwoo is infamously known as the weakest Hunter alive and constantly injures himself. During a Double Dungeon raid and abandoned by the rest of the Hunters in his party, Jinwoo, on the brink of death, gets the opportunity of a lifetime: become a Player in the System and level up, without any limitations, to become the strongest Hunter in the world.

Solo Leveling Lives On

Tragically, Dubu died in July 2022 due to a brain hemorrhage, meaning he will not be able to see his work come to life. However, his legacy still lives on in Solo Leveling even after his death. In January 2023, REDICE Studio revealed Solo Leveling will release side stories. Those who worked with Dubu, known affectionately as “disciples,” will illustrate and publish the stories, dedicating it to the late artist.

All of Solo Leveling is available to read on Tapas and Tappytoon, with side stories updating every Monday.
